Welcome!

Before you register we want to give you some more information and answer some commonly asked questions. Please read the following as well as our terms and conditions before registering. If you have more questions please email us and we're happy to address your individual questions.

Course Times: 

Monday, 9am - 7pm

Tuesday, 8.30am - 9pm

Wednesday, 8.30am - 9pm

Thursday, 8.30am - 5.30pm

Please do not book transport to leave Windmill Farm before 5.30pm on Thursday or you will not have completed the course. We strongly advise you to arrive on the night before (Sunday) in order to settle in and unpack. Should you choose to arrive on the night before we request you arrive between 5-9pm. The extra night shared accommodation is £50 and is at the participant's expense and not covered in course fees. There are several pubs in the village within walking distance which serve dinner until 8pm. See The Clanfield Tavern or The Cotswold Plough Hotel for more details. 

Should you arrive on the first day please ensure that you arrive no later than 8.30am so that you can settle in, unpack, and be ready to start at 9.00am. 

Location & Accommodation: 

Windmill Farm, Canfield near Oxford (OX18 2NS)

This course is residential. Participants and facilitators are accommodated in shared rooms. 

Transport to/from the location: 

We advise you not to book transportation until you have been confirmed registered and paid for the course to avoid incurring additional costs. 

When booking transport, allow sufficient time to get to and from the venue. If you are arriving on Monday morning or leaving on Thursday evening, then you should allow three hours to travel from the airport and 70 minutes from Didcot due to current road diversions.  

 

NOTE: A black taxi/cab from Heathrow can cost from £200+ on the meter. Some will take a credit or debit card; others will only take cash. Please check before you get in the taxi. There are no cash machines at the venue so please ensure you have sufficient British pounds before you leave the airport. The public transport has excellent links to Oxford, and are significantly cheaper.

  • From Heathrow and Gatwick Airport there are a good bus and train services to Oxford. Connections from Luton, Stansted, Birmingham and East Midlands airports are possible but more expensive.  For Heathrow click here.

  • By train: The closest and easiest train station to use is Didcot Parkway as this avoids congestion near Oxford city. Transfer time to the venue is approximately 70 minutes from Didcot.  Train times and routes can be checked on www.thetrainline.com. Taxis are available to the venue from the station at a cost of approximately £57.  There are cash machines and a payphone at the station.

  • By bus: Buses travel regularly from central London to Oxford, and from other destinations in the UK.  See www.nationalexpress.com for details.  Taxis from the Oxford city bus station to the venue costing approximately £56.

  • By taxi: Our recommended taxi company is Pryor’s Taxis.  If you wish to arrange a taxi with them, please call +44 (0) 1235 812345 and request price quote before you travel. Payment will only acceptined in British pounds or via debit/credit card.


Return transport will be organised during the week as a group so that you can share taxis where possible to reduce cost.

Meals & Dietary Requirements: 

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and two tea breaks are provided each day and will be taken at the venue beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with afternoon tea and cakes on the last day. Breakfast on the first day is provided only to those who have stayed overnight. Coffee, tea, and water are available throughout the course. 

Special dietary requirements will be accommodated within reason and should be indicated on the registration form. 

Facilitators: 

You will be trained by field-experienced security professionals who specialise and understand working in humanitarian and development contexts. They will aim to ensure that your learning is as realistic and relevant as possible to the context and risks you will face in the work you do. The training will be highly interactive and require full participation in order for you to draw the most benefit from it.

Additional Costs:

There might be other costs that you, or your organisation, need to consider.

  • Course fees do not cover airfare or travel to/from the training venue. 

  • Visas or other documentation is not included in the course fee and is the responsibility of the participant. 

 

Terms & Conditions:

Participants recognise that all participation is voluntary. Payment is due in full upon registration and no place is confirmed until payment has been made. This applies to both individuals and organisations.  

 

Cancellation & Refund:

Individuals and organisations are fully responsible for investigating and understanding any visas or documentation required to attend the course in the location advertised. If visas or other documentation are not forthcoming, the regular cancellation and refund details below apply.  If participants wish to cancel due to not receiving a visa they must do so two weeks prior to the course or face the cancellation penalties.

 

Cancellation must be confirmed in writing 15 days before the start date of the booked course to receive a FULL refund. Alternatively, you can transfer to another course or substitute a colleague for no extra charge.

 

Cancellation in writing 8-14 days before the start date of the course - only 50% of the course fee paid will be refunded.  Alternatively, you can transfer to another course within one calendar year of the cancelation or substitute a colleague. In both events an additional sum equal to 25% of the course fee will be payable.

 

Cancellation in writing 0-7 days before the start of the course or non attendance - no refund will be given. No transfer to another course or substitution of a colleague is possible at this late stage.

No-shows (failing to attend) will result in 100% of the course being charged.
