Responding to a first aid emergency: DR ABC
When you're approaching what looks like a seriously injured or unconscious person what should you remember?
This simple checklist will help you think back to what you learned on Safer Edge's Remote First Aid courses and respond appropriately:
D - Danger check
Check the area and make sure you are safe - and so are others around you.
R - Response
Can the casualty hear your voice? Can they open and close their eyes? Are they moving? Do they respond to touch?
A Airway
Is there a blockage in the throat? Is the head in a suitable position to allow breathing? Clear the airway as necessary
B Breathing
Is the casualty breathing?
C Circulation
Is there a pulse? Is the heart beating?
