Disability and Security Training

In the past, security training has marginalised different communities, including people living with disabilities. Advice and standard operating procedures have not considered how environments can disable people and produced guidance which is ableist and creates barriers to effective working.
Disability and Security is composed of 4 modules incorporating situations and activities designed to help staff living with disabilities at all levels in an organisation work safely and securely. It also provides manager, programme designers and security focal points with information to help recognise and avoid ableism in programmes and security advice, mitigation and training.
Learners can progress through the course independently, or join a group which moves through the content together with a Safer Edge specialist.

The course is 45 mins of interactive e-learning which includes learner engagements like quizzes, scenarios, activities and a range of media. To see a sample of the course please contact: operations@saferedge.com

How is an online Disability and Security course different from in-person  course?
While the experience of a Disability and Security course online and in-person are different, the outcomes are the same. Safer Edge has trained thousands of humanitarian and development professionals on security courses since 2016. Our Learning and Development team worked hard to retain all required learning objective while making the course more accessible and inclusive.

FAQs

I have a very poor internet connection. Can I still take online Disability and Security?
Yes! Using our iOS and Android apps, participants can download the Disability and Security modules when they have access to internet, complete it offline and their progress will automatically sync when they reconnect to the internet.
What do you mean by e-Learning?
E-Learning is a specific type of online learning where participants are able to engage with the course through quizzes, activities, scenarios, and a range of media. E-learning is different from remote training (such as through Skype or Zoom) and online videos or slides.
Our organisation would like to enrol a large number of staff. How do we do that?
If your organisation has 5 or more people you wish to register for a Disability and Security course, we can easily register them in bulk. We offer discounts for all groups over 5. Contact Safer Edge directly at operations@saferedge.com to register or learn more.
How long do I have to complete the course?
We realise that different people learn at different speeds and each of us will have different circumstances which influence how quickly we can complete the course. We encourage everyone to the course within a month. However, each course purchased will remain on Safer Edge Learn for a year.
