How is an online HEAT course different from in-person HEAT course?
While the experience of a HEAT course online and in-person are different, the outcomes are the same. Safer Edge has trained thousands of humanitarian and development professionals on HEAT courses since 2016. Our Learning and Development team worked hard to retain all required learning objective while making the course more accessible and inclusive.
What do you mean by e-Learning?
E-Learning is a specific type of online learning where participants are able to engage with the course through quizzes, activities, scenarios, and a range of media. E-learning is different from remote training (such as through Skype or Zoom) and online videos or slides.
How long do I have to complete the course?
We realise that different people learn at different speeds and each of us will have different circumstances which influence how quickly we can complete the course. We encourage everyone to the course within a month. However, each course purchased will remain on Safer Edge Learn for a year.
I have a very poor internet connection. Can I still take online HEAT?
Yes! Using our iOS and Android apps, participants can download the HEAT modules when they have access to internet, complete it offline and their progress will automatically sync when they reconnect to the internet.
Can different staff in the same organisation take different types of online HEAT courses?
Absolutely! We offer 3 types of online HEAT (online, blended and blended with simulation) to offer organisation more options for training more staff who need HEAT. The type of HEAT course chosen will depend on your budget, location and availability but you have assurance that all staff are reaching the same learning objectives.
Our organisation would like to enrol a large number of staff. How do we do that?
If your organisation has 20, or more, people you wish to register for a HEAT course, we can easily register them in bulk. We offer a 15% discount for all groups over 20. Contact Safer Edge directly at firstname.lastname@example.org to register or learn more.

Why Online HEAT?
COVID-19 has provided the safety and security sector with the opportunity to re-think how we train people who work in some of the most difficult environments in the world.
For too long, traditional HEAT courses have been out-of-step with the humanitarian and development sector and not reflective of our values. We believe that online HEAT provides organisations with a tremendous opportunity to take steps toward equitable security while continuing to fulfil their duty of care.
HEAT course expense, time out of work, travel costs, availability of venues and different HEAT training standards has meant that most organisations are providing a gold standard service to a handful of employees while those who face the sharpest end of risk receive little-to-no training or training not contextualised to their location or language.
Online HEAT enables organisations to provide high-standard training to all of their employees no matter where they are located and to do it affordably.
Online HEAT was created by a multi-lingual women-led Learning and Development team with over 50 years cumulative international travel and security experience. All Safer Edge courses provide a learner framework which guides students through the modules, inclusive and diverse content, trauma-sensitive approach, knowledge checks for learning and the option to repeat segments.
Safer Edge is a UK-based, risk management company that works exclusively with social sector organisations like non-profits, charities, the UN, NGOs, and foundations. Safer Edge is a leading supplier of HEAT courses.
