The Refresher Hostile Environment Awareness Training, or ReHEAT, course has been created for people who have previously completed a HEAT course online or in person.
HEAT provides key safety and security training both for those new to working in high-risk environments and for those with years of experience, but we know that learning expires- especially learning that isn't used often. ReHEAT refreshes the topics covered in HEAT, and incorporates some situations and activities that even the most experienced may find challenging.
ReHEAT is composed of 10 mandatory modules and 11 knowledge-checked modules, which use an initial quiz to determine whether the learner needs to complete the module to refresh their knowledge. Completing all 21 modules takes around 14 hours, and the learner can choose to complete a module even if they pass the quiz.
Available in multiple languages, this online course is filled with learner engagements like quizzes, scenarios, activities and a range of media. Learners can progress through the course independently, or join a group which moves through the content together with a Safer Edge specialist.

How is an online ReHEAT course different from in-person ReHEAT course?
While the experience of a ReHEAT course online and in-person are different, the outcomes are the same. Safer Edge has trained thousands of humanitarian and development professionals on HEAT and ReHEAT courses since 2016. Our Learning and Development team worked hard to retain all required learning objective while making the course more accessible and inclusive.
FAQs
I have a very poor internet connection. Can I still take online ReHEAT?
Yes! Using our iOS and Android apps, participants can download the ReHEAT modules when they have access to internet, complete it offline and their progress will automatically sync when they reconnect to the internet.
What do you mean by e-Learning?
E-Learning is a specific type of online learning where participants are able to engage with the course through quizzes, activities, scenarios, and a range of media. E-learning is different from remote training (such as through Skype or Zoom) and online videos or slides.
Our organisation would like to enrol a large number of staff. How do we do that?
If your organisation has 5 or more people you wish to register for a HEAT course, we can easily register them in bulk. We offer discounts for all groups over 5. Contact Safer Edge directly at operations@saferedge.com to register or learn more.
How long do I have to complete the course?
We realise that different people learn at different speeds and each of us will have different circumstances which influence how quickly we can complete the course. We encourage everyone to the course within a month. However, each course purchased will remain on Safer Edge Learn for a year.
Can different staff in the same organisation take different types of online ReHEAT courses?
Absolutely! We offer 2 types of online ReHEAT (online and blended) to offer organisation more options for training more staff who need ReHEAT. The type of ReHEAT course chosen will depend on your budget, location and availability but you have assurance that all staff are reaching the same learning objectives.
